The Trotter Multicultural Center has launched AfroHeal, an initiative aimed at enhancing the experiences and representation of Black students in response to U-M's DEI 2.0 Campus-wide Item. AfroHeal provides transformative experiences, including retreats, pilgrimages, and healing-centered engagements, and will introduce a partnership offering on-site access to a therapist specializing in racial trauma. Rooted in research on race-based stress, trauma, and the impacts of white supremacy, anti-Black racism, and epistemic violence on Black students, faculty, and staff, AfroHeal integrates cultural (SOUL) and contemplative practices to foster healing, resilience, and resistance. This initiative reflects our collective sense of soul—infusing creativity, love, and culture into our work—motivating us to strengthen our efforts as members of the Black community at U-M.
Our commitment to AfroHeal is community-centered, recognizing that true healing involves students, alumni, faculty, staff, community elders, and experts. We invite alumni to partner with us in empowering and uplifting our community toward greater healing and inclusivity.
