Beginning in the Fall 2024 semester, Trotter Multicultural Center began a professional development program for its student staff members. The Student Transformative Education Program (S.T.E.P.) is grounded in the Center’s commitment to empowering students to construct an inclusive and diverse environment within Trotter Multicultural Center.
Through interactive workshops led by our Graduate Team Leads, students are exposed to new opportunities to apply Trotter’s core values and learn more about at least one M-LEAD Competency. Students are able to develop their leadership skills through both facilitating and participating in the workshops.
Past workshops have included hands-on activities to improve students’ communication and listening skills, challenging them to work together to achieve a common goal. We have also offered workshops centering emotional intelligence and compassion. It is our hope that, through these workshops, students will develop skills they can use both in their personal lives and in our Center to improve the guest experience.
While S.T.E.P. is only available to Trotter’s student staff at this time, we are eager to expand our offerings to all students on U-M’s campus. We encourage you to follow us on social media and subscribe to our newsletter to learn more about all of our current offerings.
