This panel features two leading scholars of Puerto Rico: Jorell Meléndez-Badillo, author of Puerto Rico: A National History (Princeton University Press, 2024), and Rocío Zambrana, author of Colonial Debts: The Case of Puerto Rico (Duke University Press, 2021).

Día de los Muertos honors loved ones who have passed through altars, food, prayer, and celebration. This ball will celebrate these traditions while connecting them to present-day realities. Through music, authentic Mexican food, and speakers exploring the holiday’s history and Raíces, Resistencia y Recuerdo, honoring culture, remembrance, and resilience.

Día de Los Muertos Community Altar

Participate in the Día de Los Muertos Community Altar by submitting a photograph of your loved one or pet. Submit your photos by Mon, October 26th, 2026, and attend the opening on Thurs, Oct 29th, from 6-7 pm in the East Quad, first-floor Piano Atrium. Gift bags will be given to the first 50 attendees. The altar will be up from Oct 29th until Nov 5th.
