The Trotter Multicultural Center partnered up with the Center for Campus Involvement, the Islamophobia Working Group, and the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to create the first-of-its-kind panel discussion. Here, we brought together diverse and diverging student perspectives to discuss the meaning of faith and practice - from liberal to conservative to orthodox - on a largely secular campus. Challenging questions, like so — How do we respond to religious observances beyond what we normally might know and understand? What does religious tolerance look like? How can allies help in ensuring a safe campus for all? — were tackled off the bat to engage the audience into thinking critically about what holding this identity means in the Michigan academia context.
