Get to know Program Assistant Fareeha Khan and what she loves about Trotter!

What are you studying and what is your year?

I’m currently in my final year of the 3-year Master of Architecture program.

When did you begin working at Trotter?

I began working at Trotter around the same time I moved to Ann Arbor, which was about two years ago.

What is your role and responsibilities?

I am a Program Assistant and my role has evolved quite a bit during my time here.

As a Program Assistant, I help create, promote and execute programmatic events at Trotter. I’ve spent a lot of time working within our Cultural Engagement and Interfaith programs.

As a part of my role at Trotter, I became a licensed IDI Qualified Administrator. The IDI is short for Intercultural Development Inventory, and it is a way for individuals and groups to assess intercultural competence. As a QA, it is my job to debrief IDI results with individuals or groups who have taken the assessment and explain what their results mean. I’ve had the chance to work with a variety of departments across campus who were interested in having their students or team take the IDI as a development tool.

Do you have a favorite event or experience from working here?

My first semester working here I curated and moderated an Interfaith Student Panel. I think this event sticks out to me because it was the first event where I was the Lead coordinator. I got to meet individually with the student panelists and ultimately moderate the panel which turned out to be an amazing experience. I think there’s something really special about student panels in general, as student viewers get to connect with the conversation on a more personal level, since they are listening to their peers.

What do you enjoy about Trotter?

I love that I constantly get to meet and connect with new people through Trotter. And I especially love having a space dedicated to students of color on campus. In terms of my job specifically, I love facilitating events and connecting with students through our programs.

What would you say to students who maybe don't know about or aren't aware of Trotter?

I would say just drop by! The energy in the building is always great and our student lounges get especially lively in the evenings. Events are always happening and I feel like we have something here for everyone.
